The mistake of choosing a contractor for IT infrastructure costs the business not the value of the contract, but the cost of redoing it. A poorly designed cabling system, an overheated server room, or a network with Wi-Fi \"dead zones\" can lead to the need to redo everything from scratch. And as a rule, this happens at the customer's expense, because the previous contractor has already disappeared by that time or does not consider himself responsible.

There are fundamental differences in the design of a bank's and a hotel's IT infrastructure. A bank requires shielded cabling systems (FTP\/STP), segmented routes, N+1 redundancy for power and cooling, and biometric access control to the server room. For hotels, it would be optimal to combine combined routes for PMS, Wi-Fi and video surveillance systems, a telephone hotel module, and resistance to high-density connections.<\/p>\n

The contractor who networked a 30-person office is not necessarily equipped to handle a manufacturing facility that requires protection from dust, vibration, and extended inter-building backbones.<\/p>\n

Particular attention should be paid to partnerships with vendors. Partner status with Cisco, Fortinet, or SentinelOne gives the contractor access to solution testing (PoC), manufacturer's technical support and training, which directly affects the quality of implementation.<\/p>\n

What to ask: <\/strong>What certifications do the engineers have? Does the company have partner status with the equipment manufacturers whose equipment is planned to be used?<\/p>\n

Criterion 4. Full cycle or just installation<\/h2>\n

System integration is a consistent process: design \u2192 supply \u2192 installation \u2192 commissioning \u2192 documentation \u2192 support. If the contractor only closes one link (for example, only laying the cable), then you are responsible for the rest yourself. This means coordination between several contractors, vague responsibility, and no unified SLA.<\/p>\n

A company that takes a project from technical specifications to a working system and can service the result \u10d0\u10e7\u10d5\u10d0\u10dc\u10d0<\/a> is responsible for the final result and not for a separate stage.<\/p>\n

What to ask:<\/strong> Which stages do you handle yourself, and which ones do you subcontract? Do you have the possibility of IT outsourcing after the project is completed?<\/p>\n

Criterion 5. Testing and certification after installation<\/h2>\n

After the completion of installation works, each line of the structured cabling system must be checked for compliance with standards (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) using professional testers. A professional contractor specifies in the contract: the response time to an incident (from 30 minutes for critical ones), the scope of warranty work, communication channels, and the composition of planned maintenance work.<\/p>\n

If the contractor offers you IT outsourcing<\/a> , pay attention to the existence of an SLA (Service Level Agreement) \u2014 a formalized agreement on the service level. Without an SLA, \"fast response\" and \"around-the-clock support\" remain just words.<\/p>\n

What to ask:<\/strong> Show me the SLA template. What is the response time for a critical incident? What communication channels are available (phone, messenger, ticketing system)? What languages does support operate in?<\/p>\n

Criterion 7. Transparency regarding equipment and vendors<\/h2>\n

The contractor should not impose a specific vendor without explaining the reasons. A professional approach implies the possibility of considering different options in different price categories, explaining the difference: from reliable enterprise solutions (Cisco, HP Aruba) to optimal price-quality systems (MikroTik, Ubiquiti) for small and medium-sized businesses. An experienced contractor understands the difference and where what is better, also where it is not worth overpaying and where it is not worth saving.<\/p>\n

A separate nuance for the Georgian market: saving on cable (using copper-clad aluminum CCA instead of pure copper) leads to hidden packet loss and network degradation. Make sure the specification indicates the specific type of cable with justification for the choice.<\/p>\n

What to ask:<\/strong> Why do you recommend this particular vendor? What alternatives exist? Are you willing to work with the equipment already purchased by the client?<\/p>\n

The strongest indicator of a contractor's integrity is their attitude towards external inspection. A company that is confident in the quality of its work is not afraid of independent audits: neither at the design stage nor after the object is commissioned.<\/p>\n
